World of Light/Maailman valo
A video montage by Jari Haanperä, where the lights of different metropoles intertwine to a network of lights that covers the whole planet. On the northern fringe of this network, in the light of an electric bulb, a group of Finns contemplate on the concept of ”world of light” and their individual relationships to it.

- ”When you have strength, power, money, easiest way of showing it is to use as much light as you can.”

- "And I think of light as a nervous system: if you look at the world and how the lights connect, the system probably densifies and then it starts to search for an optimal form. We are now in this densifying period, out of control."

- "We have as much light as we can make. Tomorrow we have more light than today. And this leaves just one way out - I just exit the light."

- ”Fear is one thing that has to do with darkness. Man needs a lot of artificial light to keep the fear away.”

The Turkish Chess Machine/Die Turkische Schachmaschine

"What is used as an element in a machine, is an element in the machine" , Norbet Wiener

In Vienna 1770 baron von Kemple presents an invention: the first chess playing machine. He has no idea how strong an impact this invention will have in common history of the man and the machine. From now on the machine is always to challenge the man. The threat of an artificial intelligence is been given a face.

After death of von Kempelen the chess machine is handed down from one owner to another. It plays all over the world from century to another challenging human intelligence. It has found a way to survive.

KALAVALO

The film is a surrealistic-scientific deep sea dive beyond the pressure lock and beyond the reach of sunlight. It portrays by optick-kinetic means, lights and shadows, the views and feelings experienced by man going down for the very first time to the undermost strata of the great laboratory of the creation.

”I have seen fluorescence illuminations in the laboratories of physicists, buc t this was beyond and outside all ore any of these. I felt I was dealing withh something too different to be cassified in usual terms.”
